Sawa to Expand Program in Four African Countries

Sawa to Expand Program in Four African Countries

Sawa World Founder, Daphne Nederhorst, has a busy month ahead. She plans to spend March collaborating with local media partners and current and potential Sawa Leaders in four of Sawa’s African focus countries including: Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, and Kenya.

While in Africa, Nederhorst will meet with the Rwanda Film Institute; Uganda Film and Video Institute; Zambia Institute of Mass Communication; and two community film schools in Africa’s largest slum in Kibera, Kenya. Nederhorst plans to review and co-create the Youth Media Training Program with suggestions from the local media partners and look at impact goals for this year and the following years. She says, “For this year we are aiming to work with four local media partners, train 40 new unemployed youth, and document 40 new Sawa Leaders. We aim to have the Youth Journalists share the Sawa Leaders’ easily replicated solutions with one million people in their communities.”

That’s not all! During her whirlwind tour, Nederhorst will also meet other key organizations such as UNICEF in Uganda, Africa Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) in Kenya as well as several Ministries and Government officials that have been made aware of Sawa World through our local media partners. To find out about this exciting journey, be sure to read next week’s news and join us on Facebook and Twitter!
