SAWA Blog 43: SAWA Hero Dr Robert Making Connections in Vancouver

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”~ Christopher Reeve quotes

SAWA Hero Dr. Robert was the final hero to arrive just before the start of the Connecting for Change conference that took place this weekend. While the conference was full of 120 influential corporate and world leaders, the special attendance of the three SAWA Heroes was honoured in the opening ceremonies, in recognition of their unique leadership and this new opportunity to share it with the world. The dialogue went deep into the night with Nadia at the table with the Mayors of Vancouver and West Vancouver, Seleman with the former CEO of Encana, and Dr. Robert with the Founder of Medwish. On the second day the three SAWA Heroes and the Founder of Sawa Global, Daphne Nederhorst, continued their discussion on global change with the Dalai Lama.

While the conference is over, Dr. Robert is just at the beginning of making a series of fruitful connections in order to expand the success of his medical clinic in Uganda. While in Vancouver he will meet with specialist in HIV/ AIDS who can share best practices and help with access to retroviral drugs. Dr. Robert will be speaking at UBC to The Global Health Initiative, and at SFU to the Segal School of Business, Social Innovation Workshop where he hopes to be made an official partner to these programs that can help his project grow and, in turn, learn from his successful model. But besides talking to academics he is also spreading awareness about his project and his involvement with SAWA on the news. Founder of SAWA, Daphne Nederhorst and Dr. Robert were interviewed by Global TV, and the North Shore News.

A warm welcome to Dr Robert and may the next couple weeks be as fruitful as possible!
