Spreading Solutions from Within

Students at Kitintale Parents Secondary School are gaining skills and exploring new income sources as replication of local solutions – documented and spread by Sawa World's Youth Reporters – continues in Uganda.

Musoke, a student from Kitintale Parents Secondary School, made more than 100 paper briquettes over his school holidays after watching the Sawa World Solution Video.

His mother and other relatives used the briquettes to prepare meals.

"They really work, no smoke and they last longer," said Musoke.

Another student taught her friends the techniques she learned in the video, and together they made more than 50 briquettes.

The next step for the students will be to demonstrate that the briquettes are effective and sell them to members of their villages.

Four more Solution Videos were screened at Kitintale, and students were especially interested in learning more about how to earn extra income growing mushrooms at home in a simple hanging bag. A training will take place later this month by Sawa World Spark Margaret Ndekera on that particular technique.
